The Thief in the Night

Jesus taught that the last days would come upon us like a thief in the night.  But do we really understand what he was saying?

I think that most people assume this to mean that the end-times and the rapture will come upon us a lot quicker than we think.  And, certainly that much is true.  However, if that's the main point of his statement, what then, could be stolenNothing, really, and Jesus should have called it the surprise quick ending in the night.  But he said a thief in the night because three valuable things could be stolen from us.

It's like this: what if the purpose of the Holy Spirit infilling was to invite and empower you to pursue the most fabulous and wonderful prize that our generous God could give?  And what if the truth and the method to attain to it was blunderously kept from you?  And what if the time required to achieve it was robbed from you?  What's left to say?  You've been robbed!  Worse that that, you've been spiritually robbed!

In another parable Jesus tells us that certain Holy Spirit filled believers (the Foolish Virgins) didn't believe this message, and they suffered the inevitable result; missing the bridegroom at His appearing.  Truly, the Foolish Virgins had their opportunity stolen from them by the infamous thief in the Night.
